Some of the things that we all want to get to know when we travel; is the local cuisine. Ithaca, like the rest of the Seven Islands Archipelagos has some very distinct and lets just say “tasty” dishes.

We have arranged for you a unique experience. We drive from Vathy towards Kathara Monastery where we get to see the beautiful views, the very old nunnery with the famous El Greko painting of Mother Mary and if we are lucky enough we have a talk with the monk of the monastery…! Afterwards we drive the breathtaking route (in terms of view and in terms of…heights…!) to the village of Anoghi.

There at a local “kafeneion” which still is as it was hundred years ago we meet the owners (an old but very friendly couple) that introduce us to the secrets of Ithacisian cuisine and invite us to prepare with them the home made lunch. All the products and ingredients are produced locally and cooked the old fashion way. Of course the best is yet to come since afterwards we all eat at a big common table in the “kafeneion” what we have cooked…! Local wine is of course in order and just before we live we visit the church next door to see the fascinating 13th century frescos.
